Found A Cockroach In Your House? What You Should Do

Posted on

If you are going about your business in your house one day and come across a cockroach, you may be equal parts horrified and confused about what to do about it (other than kill it, obviously). There are many steps that you can take if you find a cockroach in your house. By learning what to do about cockroaches in your house, you can then go from being frozen in horror to taking action to avoid the situation again in the future.

Clean Under the Fridge and in Other Potential Infestation Points

Firstly, when you have found a cockroach in your home, you will want to try to clean and clear out areas that may be hot zones for cockroach infestations. Move the fridge and clean out the area underneath it, for example. Check under the sinks, as well. If there is moisture under your sinks, have a plumber come out and fix your pipes. Then, you can clean and air out your under-sink areas, which will take away the desirable environment for the cockroaches.

Set Up Glue Strips in Those Cleaned Areas

To further prevent and deal with cockroaches in your home, set up glue strips under the sinks, under the fridge, and in other areas you have cleaned up. This will catch cockroaches and kill them so that you do not have to find one on your counter or out in the open again.

Try to check and change those glue strips once every one or two months. This will let you know if you have a serious infestation (if you have several cockroaches on the strips) or if you are succeeding in getting rid of them (few to none on the strips).

Contact a Pest Control Company

Of course, if you have a cockroach infestation, you may be anxious to get rid of all of them as quickly as possible. Glue strips can take a while to be effective, and cockroaches may still get into your home and continue to infest it.

If you call a professional pest control company to come out, they will first inspect your home to find areas of infestation and areas in which the cockroaches can get in. They will give you a report of where you may want to have work done on your home to prevent cockroaches from getting into your home. Then, they will address the current infestation with sprays, traps, and other means.

This is the quickest and most effective way to get rid of cockroaches in your home, and while the cost may be higher than dealing with it yourself, you will gain the peace of mind knowing your cockroach problem will be eradicated.

Now that you know what you should do when you have found a cockroach in your house, you can get started right away.
