How To Create A Western-themed Family Room
Whether you are moving into a brand new house or whether you are redecorating your present family room, if you have decided to have a western themed room, you are in for a lot of fun. Here are some ideas that might inspire you to create something unique and attractive.
Start With The Floor - Consider hardwood floors. They are affordable and easy to care for. They would definitely add to a western mood, too. Another consideration would be to faux paint concrete floors. If you are an artist, you'll probably feel comfortable doing the job yourself. If not, then consider hiring a professional to faux paint the concrete. Consider giving the floor the look of old wooden planks or rustic pebblestones. Concrete will last for a very long time and the faux painting will look just as great when it has a worn, older look.
Add The Decor - Consider choosing leather for your sofa and chairs. Another great look would be to select either red or blue denim. Leather and denim both wear well and they fit the Western theme you selected.
- Add some color and some fun by choosing western throw pillows for the sofa and chairs. A good idea would be to combine cow prints along with florals, gingham and bandana prints. Some funny touches would be the addition of pillows that have sayings like, Keep yer boots off the furniture or Park yer horse away from the trough.
- Think about framing advertisement posters of old movies like Shane, Hondo and the Clint Eastwood spaghetti westerns. Pictures of stars like Roy Rogers, Hoppalong Cassidy and John Wayne would be great, too.
- Consider having each of your family members dress in old-fashioned western clothes to pose for pictures that you will hang for the family room. Rustic wooden frames would be a great choice.
The Windows - Denim or gingham curtains would be great. Another good choice would be wooden shutters. Wooden shutters are very affordable and are so easy to install that you can even do it yourself. If you decide to let a professional install the shutters, it won't take long to do the job. Wooden shutters are super easy to care for. Simply go over them with a feather duster or a soft cloth. If they need extra attention, clean them with a cloth and a gentle cleanser.
Have fun creating your western themed room.
